The basic concept of creating sunlight effect

First let’s take a look of a typical sunlight effect rendering. Here the sunlight, which comes through the windows, is the only light source to light up the room.

To create such a sunlight effect, there are basically two methods:

Method 1: Create a virtual light source, which is extremely far away from the room, to simulate sun.

Method 2: Set wall hole (normally the glass of door or window) as light source to simulate the effect  of sun-ray goes through it

 Summary:

1.    There would be no significant differences of final effect between two methods.

2.    For interior scene, sun-ray that is not going through wall hole will be wasted.

3.    For interior scene with multiple wall holes, it’s much easier to use method 1.

Basic process of creating sunlight effect

We  will  use  the  following  sample  room  to  show  you  the  basic  process  of  two methods.

Explain parameters of sunlight effect

The parameters of sunlight effect could be divided into 2 parts:

z    Light source parameters

z    Sunlight setting parameters

Light source parameters

If using method 2, you could set certain sunlight parameters by modifying the light source parameters.

 Sunlight setting parameters

Select “Sunlight Setting…” from “Light Setting” menu. In the popup dialog box, you can modify all  sunlight parameters.

Sunlight direction

Setting of sunlight direction in this dialog box is linked to the “Edit Light Source”

dialog box. If changing the direction here, the setting in “Edit Light Source” dialog box will also be changed.
