Interview Excerpts From South Africa

This month YFCAD agent Mr. Steven Harris and famous South Africa designer Mr. Stephen Lasker were interviewed by Decorex, Mr. Lasker is also an InteriCAD T3 user, he highly praised InteriCAD is an evolutionary program. Here below is the detail:

Showtime for Steven & Stephen

Decorators and designers, take note. Software goes design sexy! A creative collaboration between STEVEN HARRIS of Furnspace 3D, a software company, and the great international design mind freshly back from Miami STEPHEN LASKER of Edge Interiors promises a tour de force.

Steven. How did your company Furnspace 3D come about?

Steven Harris: One thing lead to another: My computer software company can trace its roots from a traditional 140-year family business in the leather industry (Woodheads) to a business focused on new design technology.
We started Furnspace Kids (kids furniture) and eventually Furnspace 3D. Design lessons learnt from my other business endeavors sparked off the need to venture into new media, and the use of computer technology to assist designers.

What are you busy with as we speak?
Steven: We are in the final stages of using our design software Intericad T3 Pro to create a full and detailed 3D model of our stand that we will reveal at Decorex Cape Town shortly.

What's InteriCAD T3 and what's in it for interior designers?

Steven: InteriCAD T3 is a professional interior design 3D software package. Within 1 hour, you can accomplish: 3D modelling design, photo-realistic renderings, hi-end animation, panorama and working drawings. Everything you need as an interior designer/interior architect is incorporated into a stand alone system.

How did the collaboration with Stephen Lasker come about?

Steven: Stephen and his sister/partner Lorienne Lotz will be launching a brand new furniture concept range called MODERN HISTORY and we will be using our 3D design process to facilitate this. Stephen will also be talking at the SABC3 LifeStyle theatre and we are collaborating on this presentation as well where he will be showing how he created the range and the stand space using our 3D software as part of a collaborative effort with my team of designers who have assisted him with the technical support in his creative process.

You will also be unveiling a technological innovation never seen before in SA.

Steven: The technology is called I-SCAN and allows an instantaneous interactive scanning of any fabric, floor, wall covering direct from the physical sample into a 3D picture which is then shown to the client. This process enhances the relationship between designer and client and allows the client to instantly visualise how their design will look with different combinations.

Keep talking, all the techno-talk is starting to make a lot of sense:
Using Intericad T3 Pro and the creative input of designer, combined with the technical 3D skills one is able to fill the space with furniture, add textures, material, finishes and lighting until the final rendered image is obtained. The I-Scan technology will then come in to play with the final image then being recreated with different material and fabric finishes by means of a simple hand held bar code scanner.

Do you focus mainly on the design industry?

Steven: Our goal on the show is to promote and sell our software range to the interior design, furniture and architecture industries. My long term goal is to reach the broader market including the home consumer: 3D visualization work is not just the domain of the high end designer and the top end property developers and architects, but should be a service that is fast, reasonably priced and available to all.

Stephen, you are one of the speakers at the new SABC3 Lifestyle theatre? What will you share with your audience?

Stephen Lasker: "I will be talking about the "evolution of design integrating with 3D rendering programs" like InteriCAD. In brief why I say evolution, is you can sit down with a plan of how you want a space, and as you start putting it on computer and rendering it, and all the colours, product and space come to life; you start making changes, so your design is evolving.... what you end up with may be totally different to what you originally had in mind. The software gives you a 3D visual in Living Colour' - its incredible for a designer to be working in real time"
